David Gray "In Memoriam" 18 x 32 oil

Historian's will appreciate the bugle, revolver and saber - all of which come from the Civil War era. The symbolism of the broken egg is for rebirth or new birth.  The flag is modern.  David says he took artistic license and exposed a little of the red in the folded flag and pray none take offense to the improperly folded flag. His desire was to express tribute to the fallen Americans and the freedom they protected. The animal hide is of a "Roosevelt Elk", a symbolic importance - a purely North American species. Please visit the gallery in Cherry Creek to view this painting.

David Gray acquired a strong foundational education in art while obtaining his BFA from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. His art education has continued with independent and occasional formal studies in pictorial expression and oil painting. The resulting work reveals a personal and contemporary expression of beauty and order which pays homage to the Classical Tradition in its craftsmanship.
